The Children’s Hospital Bass Classic presented by Gerry Lane Enterprises had a record-setting event this past Saturday at Doiron’s Landing in Stephensville. There were over 570 fish weighed in and 100 percent were released live back into the waters.
Gregory Bourque and Randy Durand of St. Martinville were the big winners with five fish weighing 19.66 pounds, allowing them to pocket the $12,500 first-place purse. Kevin Harvey (Bourg) and Chad Harvey (Mandeville) claimed 2nd place with five fish weighing in at 16.74 pounds. Brent Bonadona (Port Allen) and Craig Walker (Patterson) weighed in at 16.57 pounds to claim third place.
Anglers Gregory Bourque and Randy Durand came up to the podium again to claim the Big Bass first prize money of $1,250 with a 5.63 pounder. Close behind to claim 2nd place were the tournament’s 3rd place winners’, Brent Bonadona and Craig Walker, 5.33 pound bass.
Tournament founder Gary Cross, of Prairieville, was pleased with this year’s tournament and lauded Gerry Lane Enterprises for joining the event as presenting sponsor. Cross also thanked the fishermen for competing in the charity event that benefits Children’s Hospital in New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Lafayette and emphasized his thanks to our dedicated volunteers and Cabela’s as the pre-tournament sponsor, offering not only its sponsorship but money, place prizes, door prizes and hosting the pre-tournament meeting.
Proceeds from the tournament are used to help Children’s Hospital operate its medical helicopter, transporting children in immediate need of care to its hospital.
Tournament director, Pierre Part’s Brad Rodrigue, said he felt the tournament ran smoothly in the near-perfect weather.
Next year’s event will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2015.
